Your family’s story is sacred. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with — and how you stay in control of it at every step.

The short version
A plain-language summary. The full policy below is what governs — but nothing in it contradicts this.
We don’t track you. No cookies, no advertising pixels, no profile of you. We count visits with cookie-free analytics that never stores your IP address, and nothing follows you off this site.
We don’t sell or share your data. Not to marketers, not to data brokers, not to advertising platforms. Ever.
Your story belongs to you. Recordings, transcripts and photographs stay private unless you authorise otherwise in writing.
Your story never trains an AI. We use AI as a writing tool, under terms that forbid your content being used to train any model.
You can leave at any time. Reply STOP to a text, ask us to delete your file, and we will.
1. Who we are & what this covers
This Privacy Policy describes how Legacy Storybook LLC (“Legacy Storybook,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects information about you when you visit legacystorybook.com, submit an enquiry form, speak with us on a consultation call, or engage us to produce a memoir.
It is written to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and other applicable federal and state law. By using our website or submitting your information, you agree to the terms set out here.
Where this policy and your signed Consent & Service Authorization differ, the signed agreement governs your project.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us directly
When you submit the enquiry form on our website, we collect only the fields on that form:
Your name
Your email address
Your phone number, if you choose to provide it — this field is optional
Who the story is about (for example “my parent”), and which package interests you
Anything you write in the message field
If you go on to become a client, we collect what is necessary to produce your book: the recorded interviews themselves, transcripts of those recordings, photographs you supply, and the personal information about you and your family that naturally arises in the telling of a life story.
Information collected automatically
Our website sets no cookies and does not build a profile of you. Three things happen automatically, and you should know about each:
Server logs. Our host, Netlify, records standard web-server information — IP address, browser type, the file requested and the time — as part of delivering the page and protecting the site from abuse. We do not use these logs for marketing and do not combine them with anything else.
Visit counts. We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to see, in aggregate, how many people visit, which pages they read, and how they found us. It records the page address, the referring site, your browser and device type, your language setting and an approximate location no finer than your city. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Your IP address is used only to work out that approximate location and to count you once per day, through a one-way code that is reset every 24 hours; the IP address itself is discarded and never stored.
Fonts. The typefaces on this site are served by Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google to fetch them, and Google receives your IP address in the process. We receive nothing from this.

To send occasional news about our work, where you have consented — and only until you tell us to stop
To keep ordinary business records, such as invoices and correspondence

We do not use your information to build advertising audiences, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you.
4. Cookies & tracking
This website does not use cookies or advertising pixels. There is no Google Analytics, no Meta (Facebook) Pixel and no retargeting tag. We do not store anything in your browser, and nothing on this site follows you elsewhere on the internet.
One change, as of October 11, 2026: we now use Ahrefs Web Analytics, a cookie-free tool, to count visits and see which pages are read. It does not store your IP address or anything that identifies you; what it does record is set out in section 2. We use these counts only to understand which parts of the site are useful, never for advertising.
Because nothing is stored in your browser and nothing identifies you, there is no cookie banner. If that ever changes, we will update this section and say so plainly before the change takes effect.
A note on our social links. Our footer links to our Facebook, Instagram and TikTok profiles. These are ordinary links — nothing loads from those platforms unless you click through, at which point their own privacy policies apply.
5. Phone, text & email
When you submit an enquiry form and provide your phone number, you consent to be contacted by Legacy Storybook LLC by telephone, text message (SMS) or email for the purpose of responding to that enquiry and discussing our services. Providing a phone number is optional; leaving it blank does not prevent us from replying to you by email.
Message and data rates may apply. We do not use automated dialling or pre-recorded messages — when we call, it is one of the founders calling personally.
How to opt out
Text / SMS: reply STOP to any message. You will be removed immediately.
Email: click unsubscribe in any marketing email, or write to contact@legacystorybook.com with “Unsubscribe” in the subject line.
Phone: tell us on any call, or email us asking to be removed from our call list.
Opting out of marketing does not affect our ability to contact you about a project already underway.
6. Your story: privacy & ownership
Private by default. All recordings, transcripts, photographs and written stories remain strictly private unless you separately and explicitly authorise us to share them — for example, if you agree to let us show your book as an example of our work. That permission is always yours to give and yours to withdraw.
You own your story. The content belongs to you and your family. You may request copies at any time, at no charge.
Access is limited. Working files are stored in encrypted, access-controlled systems, and only Legacy Storybook team members directly involved in your project can open them.
7. Artificial intelligence in production
We use AI tools to help write, edit and structure memoir content. We think you are entitled to know exactly what that means.
These tools are used by our team, as an instrument — never to generate your book unsupervised. A founder reads, edits and takes full responsibility for every word delivered to you.
Tools may be provided by third parties such as Anthropic, PBC (the maker of Claude). Those providers operate under their own privacy policies.
We use these tools under terms that do not permit your personal data or story content to be used to train or improve any AI model. Your family’s story does not become training data.
Story content processed this way is handled confidentially and is not shared beyond what producing your book requires.
If you have concerns about AI being used in your project, write to contact@legacystorybook.com before engaging us. We are glad to talk it through and to accommodate your preferences.
8. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We share it only in these limited circumstances:
Google LLC — enquiries submitted through our website are delivered into a private Google Workspace account and stored in a Google Sheet that only the founders can open. Google acts as our service provider and does not use this content for its own purposes.
Netlify — our website host, which processes server logs as described in section 2.
Ahrefs — our analytics provider, which receives the anonymous visit information described in section 2 and stores no IP addresses or cookies.
Print and production partners — to physically produce your book, your approved final text and the photographs you supplied are shared with vetted printing partners under confidentiality agreements that forbid any other use. We never share recordings or raw transcripts with any third party.
AI tool providers — solely for production, under the terms described in section 7.
Legal authorities — where required by law, subpoena or court order.
We will never rent, sell or hand your information to marketers, data brokers or unaffiliated third parties for their own purposes.
9. Retention & security
We keep your information only as long as we need it to provide our services, maintain ordinary business records and meet our legal obligations.
Recordings and working files are retained for up to 12 months after your project is complete.
Finished books may be retained in internal backup so that we can reprint or replace a copy for your family.
Enquiries that never became projects are kept while the conversation is live and periodically cleared thereafter.
You may request earlier deletion in writing at any time, and we will honour it.
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information. No transmission over the internet is ever completely secure; if you suspect unauthorised use of your information, contact us immediately.
10. Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, the CCPA and CPRA give you the following rights:
Right to know
Request disclosure of the personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, why we collected it, and who received it.
Right to delete
Request deletion of the personal information we hold about you, subject to limited legal exceptions.
Right to correct
Request correction of personal information you believe is inaccurate.
Right to opt out of sale or sharing
We neither sell nor share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing here for you to opt out of. If that ever changes, we will provide a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link before it does.
Right to limit use of sensitive information
Ask us to limit our use of sensitive personal information — including your family’s stories — to what is necessary to deliver your book.
Right to non-discrimination
We will never deny service, charge a different price, or reduce quality because you exercised any of these rights.
To make a request, email contact@legacystorybook.com or call 310-894-6435. We will verify your identity before acting, and respond within 45 days. An authorised agent may make a request on your behalf with written proof of authorisation.
11. Children’s privacy
Our services are intended for adults aged 18 and over, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 through this website. Children and grandchildren often appear in the stories our clients tell; that information reaches us from the adult commissioning the book, and is covered by the confidentiality commitments in section 6. If you believe a minor has submitted information to us directly, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
12. Third-party links
Our website links to third-party platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to read their policies before using them.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make a material change, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and note which version it supersedes. Continuing to use our website after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
